Did you ever see a cat chase a laser? If you did, then you've probably noticed how much excited they can get, they want to catch it, they NEED to catch it, but they want it caught as a 'real physical' object, something they can feel, if they get it under their paw, and the laser light gets turned off, the cat wonders where the hell it went. She didn't even feel it, it doesn't seem fair!
Nevertheless, the cat never gives up hope, 'one day I'll get it' she thinks. After all, it's moving around so it's definitely catch-able, and why should she know otherwise?
It's fascinating stuff how a cat is built to be extra sensitive to any moving object, that's what gets them to their prey.
But it gets a bit weirder here, because cats won't see a red or pink laser light as red nor pink, rather they see it as grey-ish, and that's because cat's eyes miss the cones in their eyes needed to see reddish colors, but this actually works out quite well, because the laser dot is the same color as a mouse! The cat's ultimate toy, better and bigger than a laser light and very importantly, you can at least catch it!
Bonus fact: cats see better when things are at further distance from them, things which are nearer seems more blurred to them, in fact, they have such binocular-grade eyes that they can see sharply at 200 miles away, whereas humans can't even see properly past 50 miles if the object isn't illuminated.
